The New Jersey Devils head into St. Louis to battle the Blues on Tuesday night looking to pull off the road upset.
The Devils come into their first game of 2018 sitting just a single point out of first place in the Metro division and have put up a very respectable and surprising 22-10-6 record in their first 38 games and will take on a Blues side that has been struggling through their last 10 games with a 3-7 mark but have 13 of their 24 wins this season at home. The Devils to me are a team that has encapsulated the idea of a team game as they don’t have a ton of big names beyond Taylor Hall but that has mattered very little for this group as they have ridden the play of goaltender Corey Schneider and a cohesive defensive game that ranks them in the middle of the pack in the league. Schneider is expected to get the start tonight as he will face off against Jake Allen who continues to give the Blues a chance to win every night and backstops a unit that has conceded 11 fewer goals than the Devils.

The Blues meanwhile have hit a bit of a speed bump heading into the new calendar year as they dropped seven of their last 10 to finish out 2017 but they still boast one of the league’s deepest teams and will be out to show that off in this spot. St. Louis has been knocking on the door for the last decade as they have been in the mix as one of the league’s best teams and have a handful of very impressive regular season finishes but much like the Capitals in the Eastern Conference they haven’t been able to break through in the playoffs and until they can finally get into a Conference final they will always been seen as a team who couldn’t get it done in crunch time.
The Devils are 5-2 in their last seven overall and 4-0 in their last four against the Central while the Blues are 2-5 in their last seven overall and 11-1 in their last 12 against the Devils. New Jersey is a nice story and are getting disrespected here but the Blues are just a step ahead of the Devils and continue their recent success against them here.
