The San Jose Sharks look to shake off a shootout loss in Toronto last night as they continue their road trip in Ottawa on Friday night against the Senators.

The Sharks head into the Canadian capital on Friday night as they continue their Atlantic division road trip in Ottawa to take on a Sens side that has been one of the league’s worst teams this season which suits the visitors just well. San Jose has been a tad inconsistent this season but they are still in the mix for top spot in the Pacific division and are 4-1 in their last five games overall, though they have been a disappointing 2-5 in their last seven trips to Ottawa and will be facing a desperate squad that will be playing as such until they can turn their season around. San Jose is expected to send Aaron Dell to the crease here who already has a win over the Sens this season but with the over hitting in seven of their last eight matchups I don’t see the goaltenders having an enjoyable evening in this spot.

USA TODAY Sports

The Senators meanwhile are a woeful 7-21 in their last 28 games and have looked foolish early on this season and they are quickly running out of time as the calendar has turned into 2018 and they are well back of the division leading Tampa Bay Lightning. Ottawa made an early season splash when they traded for Matt Duchene but so far the move hasn’t panned out and Ottawa still needs more help across the board as their offense has run dry and their defense isn’t doing enough to keep them in games. Craig Anderson is expected to get the start here for Ottawa who will be out to snap an 0-7 mark against Pacific division foes and an 0-6 mark against Western Conference opponents overall.

The Sharks are 2-5 in their last seven road games and 2-7 in their last nine playing in a back to back while the Sens are 1-4 in their last five on one day’s rest but 5-2 in their last seven against San Jose. San Jose lost a tough one last night and while Aaron Dell has been playing well he hasn’t been playing against great teams and I think he is due for a regression and that starts here against Ottawa.
