The Edmonton Oilers look for a momentum building victory as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.
The Bolts head into Edmonton on Monday to finish off their Western Canada road trip and will be out for yet another road victory that has defined their impressive seasons so far and with the depth and talent this group has it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see them win the Cup this season. Tampa Bay is led up top by the likes of Nikita Kucherov, Tyler Johnson, and Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman on the blue line, but perhaps their most important piece in their remarkable season is young goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy who has taken over as the team’s every day starter after they sent Ben Bishop packing and he has responded in a huge way this season. Tampa is 5-1 in their last six road games and 4-1 in their last five meetings with the Oilers but they have struggled in this series in Edmonton as they have dropped five of their last six and the home side is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings in this matchup.

The Oilers meanwhile have had success playing on Monday’s but that has been the extent of their positives this season as they continue to be one of the league’s biggest disappointments this season as they have underachieved in every aspect and may very well finish out of the playoff picture altogether. Edmonton does have the league’s most dynamic playmaker and reigning Hart Trophy winner in Connor McDavid and they are going to be an exciting team to watch moving forward but I think in the interim they need to make a few decisions regarding personnel and a huge part of that will be what to do with forwards Mark Letestu and Patrick Maroon who continue to float around in trade rumors.
The Bolts are 6-0 in their last six road games and 7-3 in their last 10 against the Pacific while the Oilers are 5-1 in their last six Monday games and 1-4 in their last five meetings with the Lightning. Tampa Bay is the deeper team and are getting a decent price here but this seems like a spot where the Oilers step up. This one is close to call but for the sake of a toss up I will take the home dog.
