The Winnipeg Jets continue their pursuit of a division title as they head into Raleigh to face off with the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
The Jets look to extend their strong play in Sunday games as they take to the road to face off with a Hurricanes side that is fighting tooth and nail to get into the Eastern Conference playoff picture in what should be one of the more exciting contests of the day. Winnipeg has won 14 of their last 17 games to finish off the weekend and have had success against Metro division teams this season which puts them as a slight road favourite in this spot but they will have their hands full against a Hurricanes side that is 4-1 in their last five games against teams from the Central division and 5-2 in their last seven following a win. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Cam Ward who will look to end Carolina’s losing ways at home against the Jets.

Carolina meanwhile has stumbled over the last couple of weeks as they have just two wins int heir last eight contests and they have picked a tough time to go on a losing skid as the playoffs are just around the corner and teams are starting to up the ante in an attempt to qualify. The Canes were a polarizing team in the preseason as some had them pegged as a league doormat while others thought they were capable of making the playoffs and lo and behold they are right in the middle of those hypotheses and unless they can play their way out of this swoon they are going to fall short once again and land a favourable draft pick.
The Jets are 7-1 in their last eight against the East and 6-2 in their last eight overall while the Canes are 4-1 in their last five against the Central and 2-6 in their last eight overall. The Jets are the better team and while the Canes have shown up on occasions like this I just don’t see them having enough to get it done.
