The Detroit Red Wings look to snap out of their four game losing streak as they welcome the Las Vegas Golden Knights to town on Thursday night.
The Golden Knights have hit their first real speed bump of the season as they are 1-4 in their last five games and while at this stage it looks like a foregone conclusion that they will be in the playoffs and are a favourite to win the Pacific division, but they are looking a little shaky at the moment and need a bounce back effort here against the Wings. Vegas continues to defy the odds and while their measuring stick for success has already been eclipsed you can be sure that their players are thinking they are capable of winning and winning now as they have taken down some of the league’s best teams at an alarming clip this season. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to get the nod here as he will face off against Jimmy Howard who has assumed full starters minutes after the Wings sent Petr Mrazek to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Wings meanwhile have had a tough go this season and heading into Thursday night’s contest with the Knights they are 10 points back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and sit three games under the .500 mark. Detroit does have some nice young talent but they don’t have a complete roster and need to make some moves in the offseason if they’re going to avoid a full blown rebuild, but after two decades of playoff success maybe it is time for the Wings to hit the reset button and start another dynasty from the ground up. Detroit is winless in their last seven Thursday games and their last four games against the Western Conference and with Vegas looking to regain their form expect this to be a tough evening for the Red Wings.
The Knights are 20-6 in their last 26 on one day’s rest and 5-2 in their last seven against the Atlantic while the Wings are 8-2 in their last 10 home games following a lengthy road trip but 3-9 in their last 12 games at LCA overall. Vegas is the better team and this is one we won’t overthink as they get the victory on the road.
