The New York Islanders look to snap out of their miserable losing streak as they welcome the Washington Capitals to town on Thursday night.

The Capitals look to shake out of their road losing funk as they head into the Barclay’s Center to face off against the Islanders who have been miserable over the last few weeks as they are 1-8 in their last nine games and a woeful 0-5 stretch against Eastern Conference foes which bodes very well here for the Caps. Washington celebrated another Alex Ovechkin milestone against the Jets earlier this week as he eclipsed the 600 goal mark and the Caps are hoping he isn’t close to being done as they have the playoffs around the corner and currently sit in top spot in the Metro division, though tied with the Pens and only four points up on the Flyers. Washington will be out for a key win here as they will send Phillipp Grubauer to the crease here as he will face off against Jaroslav Halak who will counter for the slumping Islanders.

The Isles meanwhile have picked a very tough tie to go on a losing skid as they are now 10 points back of the Devils for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and with only 13 games left to be played they don’t look very good right now. New York does have some budding young talent in the form of rookie of the year candidate Matt Barzal and still have one of the game’s very best in John Tavares but they have some big holes they need to address and perhaps the draft is the best place to do so as they haven’t had a ton of success luring in free agents of late. The home team has won the last four meetings with these teams though so the Isles do have something they can hang on to, though I’m not convinced that trend is going to continue in this one.

The Caps are 2-5 in their last seven following a win and 25-10 in their last 25 playing on two day’s rest while the Islanders are 2-8 in their last 10 Thursday games and 1-4 in their last five home games. Washington needs to keep winning while the Isles look as though their playoff hopes are already dashed which makes this a nice play for the price on the Capitals.
