The New Jersey Devils look for a pivotal home ice win as they host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night with huge playoff implications at stake.

The Penguins have hit a speed bump in their regular season performance as they are a disappointing 1-4 in their last five road games and while it seems like they are a shoe in to bounce back once the playoffs start it must be causing a bit of a concern for them as they are seeing the Metro division lead slip away. Pittsburgh will look to chase down the Capitals for the division lead and avoid an opening round series with the Philadelphia Flyers but at the moment it looks like we might see a Battle of Pennsylvania in the first round which would be an absolute treat for hockey fans as those teams absolutely despise each other. Matt Murray is expected to get the start here as he will face off against Corey Schneider who will be tasked with keeping the high octane Penguins offense at bay.

The Devils meanwhile are three points clear of the Panthers for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference but with an extra game played they know that each game down the stretch is of utmost importance and this one is no exception. The Devils could also chase down the Blue Jackets and Penguins for one of the top three spots out of the Metro if they can go on a tear to finish the season and with just over a week left in the regular season and New Jersey being very consistent both on the road and at home they could very well pull off a string of victories. New Jersey is 6-2 in their last eight overall and are 4-0 in their last four against the East and New Jersey has actually dominated this series of late.

The Pens are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games and 62-28 in their last 90 against the Metro while the Devils are 4-1 in their last five following a win and are 22-6 in their last 28 games against the Pens. New Jersey needs this game more than the Pens and as a home dog they are a worth a look as Pittsburgh is marred in some of their worst hockey of the season.
