The Edmonton Oilers head to the road looking to play spoiler as they face off against their former goaltender Devan Dubnyk and the Minnesota Wild.
The Oilers head into Minnesota on Monday night looking to shake off back to back losses as they face off against a Wild team that is slotted into third place in the Central division at the moment and will be desperate for a win here to move closer to securing a place in the Western Conference playoffs. Edmonton has been one of the league’s biggest disappointments this season as they have gone from the Pacific division finals a season ago to falling well short of the playoffs this season, and while Connor McDavid is in the lead for the Art Ross with the league’s most points, it is clear he can’t do it all on his own despite the opinions of some Oilers fans. Edmonton is 17-21-2 on the road this season and they are 3-8 in their last 11 games against the Central division and with the Wild heading up and absolutely dominating this series in Minnesota it makes sense to see the Oil as such a heavy dog here.
USA TODAY Sports
The Wild head into tonight’s game with a 21-9 mark in their last 30 games on home ice and are 13-4 in their last 17 games following a loss of three or more goals and after a decisive defeat on Saturday they are looking to respond in a big way with the playoffs hanging in the balance. Minnesota is a very deep team and while they have had their issues on the road this season they have been very strong at the Xcel Energy Center and get the Oilers at home in this spot they are going to have to sort out a plan of attack for their road woes if they’re going to make a run in the competitive Western Conference.
Edmonton is 7-2 in their last nine Monday games and are winless in their last four overall while the Wild are 4-1 in their last five against a team with a losing record and have hit the under in four of their last five. The Oilers have been better lately but their four game slide has them back to reality and with Minny needing a big win they get it done here.
