The Toronto Maple Leafs look to play spoiler on the road as they take on the New Jersey Devils on Thursday who are fighting tooth and nail to hold on to a wild card spot in the East.

The Buds are locked into the third seed in the Atlantic division and will take on whoever falls short of the division crown between the Lightning and Bruins but on Thursday they can make life difficult for the Devils who currently hold on to a wild card spot and can clinch a spot with a victory or overtime loss. Toronto will likely still want to finish the season with a bang and head into the playoffs on a winning note but on the road against a good Devils side who will have some added motivation to earn a victory plus are celebrating their fan base might make things difficult. Toronto is 1-5 in their last six trips to New Jersey but they are 9-3 in their last 12 overall and have been playing some of their best hockey of the season, and with Freddy Andersen slated to match up with Corey Schneider this should make for an entertaining game.

The Devils meanwhile have turned things up a notch over the last couple of weeks and are also playing their best hockey of the season, and with a single point in this spot they would officially eliminate the Florida Panthers from contention and book their ticket to at least a wild card berth. New Jersey could still chase down the Jackets for third in the Metro and avoid a first round matchup with a division winner and with a 4-1 mark in their last five at home and a 6-1 stretch in their last seven overall the Devils are in good shape as a slight home favourite here.

The Leafs are 5-0 in their last five Thursday games and 6-2 in their last eight against the Metro while the Devils are 4-1 in their last five following a win and 7-1 in their last eight against the East. Toronto is the better team but New Jersey has added incentive here and they get it done at a light line.
