The NHL playoffs kick off round two with the Pittsburgh Penguins visiting the Washington Capitals.
The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated Philadelphia in six games to move on to round two and keep their drive for a third straight Stanley Cup alive. The question mark surrounding Pittsburgh in the opening round was keeping the puck out of their net.

The answer wasn’t clear with the Penguins logging a pair of shutouts but allowing 14 goals in two losses and a game six win. What was clear is Pittsburgh was the highest scoring team in the first round of the playoffs.
Thanks to a second half breakout at the offensive end of the ice the Penguins were third in scoring at 3.3 goals on 34.4 shots (#1) while possessing the top ranked power play at 26.2%. The Pittsburgh defense was number 20 with three goals allowed so the play of goalie Matt Murray (2.92 GAA-.907%) is under the microscope.
The Washington Capitals were forced to six games in round one of the postseason by Columbus. The Blue Jackets won the first two games of the series in overtime before Washington reeled off four straight victories.
The Capitals were at the top of their game a the offensive end with 24 goals scored and 18 goals allowed. Many expected an early ouster in the playoffs but the pressure packed series featured four games going to overtime n a series that could have gone ether way.
On the season Washington was number nine in scoring at 3.1 goals while allowing 2.9 goals (#16). The key for the Capitols is Braden Holtby who started in the four wins and kept the Blue Jackets from dominating the scoreboard
Over is 4-0-1 in Penguins last 5 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and over is 4-0 in Penguins last 4 Thursday games and Penguins are 5-0 in their last 5 road games. Over is 5-0 in Capitals last 5 home games and Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game and Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. Metropolitan. Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Crosby versus Ovechkin? Murray versus Holtby? This series will definitely be action packed and for now I am looking at offense in game one…
