The Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t been at their best in back to back defeats against the Washington Capitols and now trail the series 2-1 following a 4-3 loss in game three. Pittsburgh did all their soring in the second for a 3-2 lead heading to the third but could not maintain the momentum.

The Penguins offense came off the sticks of Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist on the power play with Sydney Crosby giving the team the lead at the 16:27 mark of the second. Crosby and Guentzel also had assists but Matt Murray allowed four goals on 22 shots.
The Capitals put themselves in position for a commanding 3-1 series lead following another solid offensive performance n game three. The Caps received second period goals from John Carlson and Chandler Stephenson with Matt Niskanen and Alex Ovechkin soring in the third.
Washington received an assist from Ovechkin and Niklas Backstrom added three helpers to make the 22 save performance of Braden Holtby a winner. Holtby improved to 6-1-1 to become the Caps number one over Philipp Grubauer.
