The Washington Capitals welcome the Vegas Golden Knights to the Capital One Arena for game three of the Stanley Cup finals in NHL action Saturday.
The Vegas Golden Knights offense exploded in the Stanley Cup opener but was held in check in a 3-2 loss to visiting Washington in game two that evened the series 1-1. Vegas drew first blood at just under eight minutes in the first on a James Neal tally before Shea Theodore ended a three goal Washington burst with a power play goal at 17:47.

The Golden Knights trailed 3-2 entering the final 20 minutes but couldn’t net the equalizer despite a 15 shot barrage. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed three goals on 26 shots to absorb the loss and miss out on an opportunity to help the Golden Knights to a 2-0 series lead.
The Capitals have been nothing short of resilient in this postseason and showed that trait once again in Wednesday’s game two to avoid an 0-2 hole heading back home for game three. Lars Eller sored in the first for the Caps with Alex Ovechkin (PP) and Brooks Orpik found the back of the net in the second for three straight goals.
Andre Burakovsky added a pair of assists for Washington while Lars Eller completed a three point night with two helpers. Braden Holtby was the hero for the Capitals with 37 saves in a clutch performance.
Under is 4-0-1 in Golden Knights last 5 road games and under is 4-0-1 in Golden Knights last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and Golden Knights are 1-4 in their last 5 Saturday games. Over is 4-1 in Capitals last 5 vs. Western Conference and over is 5-1-3 in Capitals last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and Capitals are 2-4 in their last 6 vs. Pacific.
I have a few days to dig further in to this but for now I’m looking at the over in some form. My reasoning is Vegas has been putting rubber on the net and a few will get by Holtby while Washington will continue to make the most of opportunities…
