The Vancouver Canucks and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet in NHL action from Amalie Arena on Thursday night.
The Vancouver Canucks will look to rebound from back-to-back losses, including a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in their last outing. Vancouver found themselves down 1-0 within the first minute of the game but Sven Baertschi was quick to equalize for the Canucks just 5:29 later. Vancouver fell behind 3-1 after the first before Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi again pulled the Canucks back to a one goal deficit at 3-2 and 4-3 but Warren Foegele would ice the Canucks with a 5th marker for Carolina in the end. Jacob Markstrom took the loss after allowing all 5 goals on 33 shots to fall to 1-2 this season.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will come into this game rested after not having played since their season debut against Florida this past Saturday, ending with a 2-1 shootout victory. Tampa found themselves down a goal after the first period but Anthony Cirelli tied the game for the Lightning just last the halfway point of the game and it stayed that way even through overtime where J.T. Miller and Nikita Kucherov would each bury in the shootout to give Tampa Bay the extra point. Andrei Vasilevskiy got the win after stopping 42 of 43 shots in addition to both shootout attempts from the Panthers to improve to 1-0 this season.
Vancouver is 1-8 in their last 9 games against the Atlantic and 29-64 in their last 93 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Tampa Bay is 38-16 in their last 54 home games and 23-9 in their last 32 games against the Western conference while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games against the Pacific. Vancouver is 3-7 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Vancouver has been outscored 12-7 in the first two games of their six game road trip, and there’s been seven goals in each of Vancouver’s first three games so the over is worth a look. However, don’t let the Lightning’s opening game fool you. This is still one of the deepest and most powerful offensive units in the East and Tampa has plenty of experience with Markstrom after the Canucks’ goaltender spent the first 5 years of his career in Florida. I think this is a game where rest plays a huge part and Tampa Bay finally breaks out offensively, so I’ll side with the Lightning on the puck line to increase the value of the bet.
