The Florida Panthers look to shake off a tough loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in their last outing as they welcome the Vancouver Canucks to town on Saturday.
The Canucks are coming off a statement road win against the heavily favoured Tampa Bay Lightning and will look to complete the Sunshine State sweep with a victory on Saturday against the Panthers. Vancouver was projected to finish as one of the league’s worst teams this season and they still could very well land in the draft lottery with plenty of action left but so far they have surprised a few people and will continue to get juicy odds as a road underdog. Things haven’t gone Vancouver’s way over the last of seasons and this year things don’t look as though they will improve too much as they have won just 19 games in their last 58 overall and tonight they take on a Panthers side that has been excellent at home over the last couple seasons and have won 21 of their last 28 in Sunrise.

The Panthers come into the season as a team flying under the radar in the Atlantic division as they have to compete with the likes of Toronto, Boston, and Tampa Bay but they could very well unseat one of those teams and qualify for the postseason. Florida has a ton of weapons in the offensive zone and while they may not carry the same name value as guys like John Tavares and Brad Marchand they are still a very good team and will give us plenty of value against some of the league’s top teams. However, the Cats are big favourites in this spot against a Vancouver side who is projected to finish in the bottom five this season and with the home team sporting a 5-1 record in the last six meetings in this series it make sense to see the Panthers as a big player in Vegas in this one.
The Canucks are 2-8 in their last 10 against the Atlantic and 17-35 in their last 52 Saturday games while the Panthers are 5-2 in their last seven overall and 4-1 in their last five against the Pacific. The Panthers are big favourites here and while the value is on the Canucks I don’t see them staying close here in a game that finishes in regulation with a Panthers win.
