The Carolina Hurricanes and the Minnesota Wild meet in NHL action from the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday evening.
The Carolina Hurricanes will look to continue their hot start to the season after putting up their 3rd straight win in a 5-3 victory over Vancouver in their last outing. Jordan Staal, Brett Pesce and Sebastian Aho each logged a first period tally to give the ‘Canes a 3-1 lead after the first and Andrei Svechnikov would score the Hurricanes 4th goal in the 2nd period to give Carolina the lead for good. Warren Foegele chipped in an insurance goal in the later stages of the 3rd to give us our final score line. Curtis McElhinney got the win to improve to 2-0 after stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced in the winning effort.

The Minnesota Wild will look to build some momentum after logging a 4-3 overtime win over Chicago for their first victory of the season. The Wild fell behind 2-0 after one period but Eric Staal and Jason Zucker would tie the game heading into the 3rd. Ryan Suter scored for Minny short-handed with 23 seconds to go to send the game to overtime, where Zucker would score his 2nd of the night for the win. Suter, Staal and Zach Parise would each add 2 assists in the win, with Staal and Suter putting forth a 3-point effort on the night. Devan Dubnyk got the win after stopping 27 of the 30 shots he faced for his first victory of the year.
Carolina is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the Central. Minnesota is 0-6 in their last 6 games following a win and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games against the Eastern conference. Carolina is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings and 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.
The home team has dominated this series, winning 16 of the last 22 meetings, and Carolina has struggled with the Wild, especially away from home. However, I feel like this could be a good chance for the ‘Canes to exorcise some demons here. The Wild are a strong team at home, but they’ve had trouble following up a win dating back to last season. Carolina is off to a solid start and while it will have to end eventually, I think we are getting enough value to try riding it for one more night so I’ll side with Carolina in this spot.
