The Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet in NHL action from the Amalie Arena on Thursday night.
The Detroit Red Wings will still be looking for their first win of the season after a brutal 0-4-2 start to the year has the Wings in the basement of the league following a 7-3 beatdown at the hands of Montreal in their last outing. Detroit found themselves down 2-0 and 3-1 at the end of the 1st with a marker from Andreas Athanasiou, and 6-1 at the end of the second before making an attempt at a combeack with consolation goals from Athanasiou again as well as Thomas Vanek, but it was too little too late as Detroit was sent back empty handed. Jimmy Howard ended up with the loss, falling to 0-2-2 after allowing 5 goals on 20 shots before being pulled in the 2nd period.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be looking to build on back-to-back victories following a 4-2 triumph over Carolina in their last outing pushed their record to 3-1-0 this season. Tyler Johnson tied the game for Tampa Bay after falling behind 1-0 in the first, and scored a second marker 6:07 into the second period, leaving us with a 2-2 tie at the end of 40 minutes. Yanni Gourde gave Tampa Bay the lead and Johnson potted his 3rd goal of the game into an empty net for the hat trick to seal the victory for the Bolts. Louis Domingue got the win after stopping 38 of 40 shots for his first victory of the season.
Detroit is 20-48 in their last 68 games overall and 17-50 in their last 67 division games while the over is 8-1-1 in their last 10 road games. Tampa Bay is 5-0 in their last 5 division games and 40-17 in their last 57 home games while the under is 6-1-2 in their last 9 games overall. Detroit is 8-26 in the last 34 meetings between these two teams and 7-19 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams in Tampa Bay.
The Red Wings haven’t had any luck this season, and playing Tampa Bay doesn’t help matters as the Wings have had barely any success against the Lightning overall or on the road. Assuming Andrei Vasilevskiy starts, the Tampa Bay net minder is 6-0-0 with a 1.71 GAA and a .947 save percentage against Detroit in his career. I think the Tampa offense combined with Vasilevskiy’s dominance of Detroit combines to make one of the easier puck line bets so far this season, so I’ll take Tampa Bay by a couple of goals on Thursday.
