The New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings meet in NHL action from the Staples Center on Sunday afternoon.
The New York Rangers will look to rebound after losing 3 of their last 4 games, including a 4-1 loss to Chicago in their last outing. New York fell behind just 2:55 in the game, but that deficit would last just over a minute as Pavel Buchnevich would tie the game for the Rangers with New York’s lone marker in the losing effort. Alexandre Fortin gave Chicago the lead back for good before the Blackhawks added a pair of insurance markers late in the 3rd period. Henrik Lundqvist ended up with the loss after allowing 3 goals on 36 shots to fall to 2-5-1 this season.

The Los Angeles Kings will be out for a win to snap a 6-game losing streak following a 4-1 loss to Minnesota in their last outing. L.A. found themselves down 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 down after 40 minutes before Kyle Clifford cut the deficit in half early in the 3rd frame. That’s as close as the Kings would get however, as the Wild would add a pair of empty net goals in the final minute to ice the game. Jack Campbell took the loss to fall to 2-4-0 this season after allowing 2 goals on 24 shots in the losing effort.
New York is 15-40 in their last 55 road games and 2-6 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 13-3 in their last 16 games against the Western Conference. Los Angeles is 3-13 in their last 16 games overall and 1-6 in their last 7 home games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 home games. The over is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams and 4-1-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.
I’m not trying to get behind either of these teams, as the Rangers haven’t had any luck on the road, and the Kings haven’t had luck anywhere, losing six in a row. Instead, I’m going to side with the over here. It’s been a common trend when these two meet and each of New York’s last 3 losses have seen them give up 4 goals and the Kings have allowed four or more goals in each of their six losses during this losing skid, being outscored 29-8 over that span. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one go over by the end of the second period, given their respective struggles keeping the puck out of the net.
