The Winnipeg Jets and the Florida Panthers meet in NHL action from the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland on Thursday afternoon.
The Winnipeg Jets will look for a bounce back performance after being taken down in their last outing by a final score of 3-2 against Toronto. Kyle Connor opened the scoring for the ‘Peg and Mark Scheifele doubled the Jets advantage at the end of 40 minutes, but the wheels fell off as the Leafs scored 3 times in a 10:42 span in the 3rd period to send the Jets away empty-handed. Connor Hellebuyck took the loss, falling to 4-4-1 this season after allowing 3 goals on 31 shots in the losing effort.

The Florida Panthers are in dire need of a win after losing 7 of their first 9 games to start the year, including a 3-2 loss to New Jersey in their last outing. The Panthers fell behind 1-0 after 20 minutes and 3-0 after the 2nd period, but made a valiant effort at a comeback, scoring twice in a 4:42 span late in the 3rd but it was too little too late as New Jersey ended up with the W. James Reimer ended up with the loss, falling to 1-3-1 this season after allowing all 3 goals on 26 shots in the loss.
Winnipeg is 16-5 in their last 21 games against the Eastern Conference and 10-2 in their last 12 games against the Atlantic while the under is 9-3-2 in their last 14 games overall. Florida is 2-7 in their last 9 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 12-4-1 in their last 17 games against the Western Conference. The over is 8-2-1 I the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
These international games can be hard to gauge sometimes, as the long travel can have a serious effect on the style of play. With that said, Florida has burned more than their fair share of money if you’ve bet on them this season, while Winnipeg has been one of the more consistent teams to back. You have to also figure that this game will mean a lot to Jets F Patrik Laine who will be playing in his home country in this one and will probably have a strong contingent of Jets fans wearing Laine jerseys in this one. All in all, I just don’t think a change of scenery can fix Florida’s woes, so I’ll lay the juice with the Jets in this one.
