The New Jersey Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs meet in NHL action from Scotiabank Arena on Friday night.

The New Jersey Devils will look to bounce back after losing 7 of their last 9 games following a 7-3 loss to Ottawa in their last outing. Taylor Hall and Kyle Palmieri helped the Devils jump out to a 2-0 lead but that advantage was wiped out by the end of the 1st period as the game sat at 2-2. The Devils then allowed 4 unanswered goal to fall behind 6-2 before pulling a goal back thanks to Travis Zajac, but it was too little too late as the Sens added an empty netter to shut the door on New Jersey. Cory Schneider took the loss, falling to 0-2-0 this season after allowing 4 goals on 22 shots.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be looking to build on back-to-back wins after a 3-1 triumph over Vegas in their last outing. Connor Brown gave the Leafs the lead after 20 minutes and Mitch Marner doubled the advantage just :09 into the 2nd period before Cody Eakin pulled a goal back for the Golden Knights. The game stayed at 2-1 until Nazem Kadri put the game on ice with an empty netter late in the 3rd, securing the points for Toronto in the win. Frederik Andersen got the win to improve to 8-5-0 this season after stopping 36 of 37 shots to improve to 8-5-0 this season.

New Jersey is 2-7 in their last 9 games overall and 1-9 in their last 10 road games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games against the Eastern Conference. Toronto is 22-8 in their last 30 home games and 9-4 in their last 13 games overall while the under is 10-1 in their last 11 games overall. The home team is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.

The Devils have cooled off big time from their hot start to the year, and it’s translated on the road as well as New Jersey’s road struggles that ended last season have carried over to this year. Toronto has been a better team on the road than at home this season, but the Leafs have been the more consistent of the two teams, so while it’s not pretty, I’ll lay the juice with Toronto in this spot.
