The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Philadelphia Flyers meet in NHL action from the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will be out to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 9-6 barnburner loss to Calgary in their last outing. Calgary opened the scoring but it wasn’t long before Zach Werenski, Josh Anderson and Cam Atkinson gave the Blue Jackets a 3-1 lead after the opening period. Atkinson would score again in the 1st minute of the 2nd period to make it a 4-1 advantage but things quickly changed as Calgary scored 5 unanswered goals to put Columbus behind 6-4. Nick Foligno cut the deficit back to 6-5, but that’s as close as Columbus would get as Calgary would add two more to take an 8-5 lead. Atkinson completed his hat trick with a consolation goal in the 3rd before Calgary scored their 9th to seal the deal. Sergei Bobrovsky took the loss, falling to 10-9-0 this season after allowing 8 goals on 26 shots in the losing effort.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Flyers will be out to build on a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in their last outing. The Penguins took a 1-0 lead which lasted all of 5 minutes before Travis Konecny tied the game for Philly at 1-1 after the opening period. The Pens did the same in the 2nd to make it 2-1, but this lead lasted just over a minute before Claude Giroux tied the game again for Philly. The Flyers took a 3-2 lead in the opening minute of the 3rd period thanks to a goal from Dale Weise before Jakub Voracek added an insurance goal on an empty net in the final minute of play to secure the win for the Flyers. Anthony Stolarz took the win to improve his record to 1-1-0 this season after stopping 30 of 32 shots in the winning effort.

Columbus is 3-8 in their last 11 games against the Metropolitan division and 12-2 in their last 14 Thursday games while the under is 8-1-1 in their last 10 road games. Philadelphia is 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 2-6 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 19-8-3 in their last 30 games against the Eastern conference. Columbus is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams.

It’s really hard to score 6 goals in a game and still lose, but that’s just the way the cookie has been crumbling for the Blue Jackets lately. Philadelphia is coming off of that solid win against the Penguins, but that game was on the road and the Flyers are still having their fair share of issues at home this season. Columbus, even in defeat has shown the ability to put goals on the board, and have had the majority of the success in this matchup, so I’ll side with Columbus on the road to pick up the win here.
