The Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs meet in NHL action from Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night.

The Detroit Red Wings will be looking to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 6-5 shootout loss to Tampa Bay in their last outing. Gustav Nyquist and Franz Nielsen scored :21 apart in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead into the 1st intermission. Tampa would tie the game at 2-2 just after the midway point of the 2nd, before Nielsen scored his 2nd of the game to restore the lead. Tampa would strike again to make it 3-3 before Nielsen completed the hat trick before the end of the 2nd frame, taking a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes of play. Nyquist would score again to make it 5-3, but Tampa would completely erase the deficit, scoring 5:08 apart, sending the game to overtime. The extra period solved nothing and Nyquist would score in the shootout but it wouldn’t be enough as Detroit lost the shootout 2-1. Jimmy Howard took the loss, allowing 5 goals on 35 shots to fall to 9-6-4 with the OT loss.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to keep their momentum going after winning 5 in a row following a 4-3 overtime win over Buffalo last time out. The game was a scoreless stalemate through 20 minutes before Auston Matthews broke the deadlock in his first game back from injury. Buffalo would tie the game at 1-1 before Jake Gardiner made it 2-1 with :10 to go in the 2nd period. Buffalo struck twice to take a 3-2 lead before Patrick Marleau tied the game, sending us to overtime where Toronto was in their own end for a good chunk of the extra frame before Matthews scored his 2nd of the game with less than :03 to go in OT. Frederik Andersen got the win to improve to 16-7-0 after stopping 38 of 41 shots in the winning effort.

Detroit is 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 7-19 in their last 26 road games while the over is 11-5 in their last 16 division games. Toronto is 36-15 in their last 51 home games and 46-22 in their last 68 games overall while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 division games. Detroit is 1-8 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams and 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams in Toronto.

Heavy plus money like this is tempting, considering that it takes just one bounce of the puck to potentially make 2.5 times your wager. However, the Maple Leafs are rolling again, and bringing back Matthews into the fold with the potential return of William Nylander on the cards can only make this team more dangerous. Add in the fact that Toronto has owned this matchup in recent years, and I think siding with the Leafs on the puck line is the only way to go in this one.
