The Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres meet Sunday in NHL action at the KeyBank Center.
The Winnipeg Jets need a win after splitting their last six games. The Winnipeg Jets are averaging three goals per game and are scoring on 19.4 percent of their power play opportunities. Kyle Connor leads Winnipeg with 29 goals, Mark Scheifele has 36 assists and Blake Wheeler has 156 shots on goal. Defensively, the Winnipeg Jets are allowing three goals per game and are killing 75.5 percent of their opponents power plays. Connor Hellebuyck has given up 123 goals on 1,520 shots faced and Laurent Brossoit has allowed 50 goals on 445 shots. The Winnipeg Jets have allowed two or less goals in eight of their last 12 games.
The Buffalo Sabres look for another win after winning five of their last seven games. The Buffalo Sabres are averaging 2.8 goals per game and are scoring on 19.3 percent of their power play opportunities. Jack Eichel leads Buffalo with 33 goals, Rasmus Dahlin has 31 assists and Sam Reinhart has 123 shots on goal. Defensively, the Buffalo Sabres are allowing 3.1 goals per game and are killing 75 percent of their opponents power plays. Carter Hutton has given up 74 goals on 716 shots faced and Linus Ullmark has allowed 89 goals on 1,031 shots. The Buffalo Sabres have allowed three or less goals in 12 of their last 16 games.
The favorite is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings.
The Buffalo Sabres still have a ways to go before proving they've righted the ship, but there's no doubt they're playing improved hockey over the last week or so and it's led by a much more consistent defense. You're never quite sure which Winnipeg Jets team is going to show up from game to game, but they have a history of stringing together bad defensive performances, so I'm not expecting much after Saturday's showing. The Buffalo Sabres have also won five of the last eight meetings against the Jets. With both teams on the end of a back to back, give me the Sabres on their home ice.
