The Dallas Stars and the Nashville Predators meet in a Central division clash in NHL action from the Bridgestone Arena on Thursday night.
The Dallas Stars will be out to snap a three-game losing streak after a 2-1 overtime loss to Edmonton last time out. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes before Edmonton took the lead just over seven minutes into the 2nd period. Edmonton’s lead would hold going into the 3rd where John Klingberg tied the game less than seven minutes into the 3rd period. Neither side would find the game-winning goal in regulation, so it was off to overtime where the Oilers struck just over a minute into OT to pick up the win and the extra point that goes along with it. Anton Khudobin took the loss, falling to 16-7-4 on the year after allowing both goals on 27 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Nashville Predators will also be looking to snap a three-game losing streak of their own after a 3-1 loss to Minnesota last time out. Minnesota took the lead just over four minutes into the game and doubled the advantage with less than eight minutes to go in the 1st period. The Wild would go 3-0 up just under two minutes into the 3rd period, but Craig Smith would pull a goal back just 3:29 later. All it ended up being was a consolation goal as Minnesota held on for the win. Juuse Saros took the loss, falling to 14-12-4 on the year after giving up 3 goals on 33 shots faced in the losing effort.
Dallas is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record and 11-5 in their last 16 games as an underdog while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Nashville is 1-4 in their last 5 games against the Western Conference and 4-0 in their last 4 Thursday games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 division games. Dallas is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Nashville.
Dallas has been playing some strong hockey as of late, so getting them in the underdog role is definitely tempting. However, while it isn’t commonplace, a lot of us have seen the tornado that hit the Nashville area and affect a lot of people in and around the city. We’ve seen it with the Saints in the NFL after Hurricane Katrina, and in other cities like Houston and New York, that a lot of people use these sporting events to take their minds off of things and sort of heal for at least a little bit. I think while something like that could be a distraction on most nights, this will help the Predators focus and put their best foot forward for the home fans so I’ll lay the juice with Nashville in this game.
