The Chicago Blackhawks and the Vegas Golden Knights meet in game two of their best-of-seven Western Conference quarter-final series from Rogers Place on Thursday afternoon.
The Chicago Blackhawks will look to rebound after falling behind in the series, dropping game one against Vegas by a final score of 4-1 last time out. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes but Shea Theodore would break the deadlock for Vegas 7:22 into the second period and Will Carrier doubled Vegas’ lead just 2:17 later. David Kampf pulled a goal back for Chicago just 1:12 after that with Chicago short-handed, and the 2-1 score would hold going into the 3rd period. Reilly Smith would restore the two-goal cushion 3:32 into the 3rd and Smith would push the lead to 4-1 with his second goal in 4:42 later in the final frame and Vegas would hold onto that 4-1 lead and ride it to the finish line.
Robin Lehner got the win in goal for Vegas after stopping 19 of the 20 shots faced in the win while Corey Crawford allowed four goals on 34 shots faced for Chicago in the defeat.
Chicago is 0-6 in their last 6 conference quarter-final games and 7-2 in their last 9 games against the Pacific division while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 games against the Western Conference. Vegas is 12-2 in their last 14 games following a win and 11-2 in their last 13 games as a favorite while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 Thursday games. Chicago is 1-9 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
I expected this to be less of a hard-hitting series and more about the finesse and offensive capabilities on both sides, with Kane and Toews for Chicago as well as Mark Stone, Max Pacioretty and co. for Vegas. I think Vegas will get their fair share of goals in this series and from a total standpoint It’s just a matter of if Chicago contributes or not. I think the total is low, but I could easily see another lower scoring game here so I’ll take the under as my free pick for this game but my stronger play is on the side and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
