The Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche meet Saturday in game three of the NHL West First Round at the Rogers Place.
The Colorado Avalanche can all but put this series to bed with a victory here and a 3-0 lead. The Colorado Avalanche are averaging three goals per game and are scoring on 27.8 percent of their power play opportunities. Joonas Donskoi leads Colorado with two goals, Mikko Rantanen has four assists and Nazem Kadri has 22 shots on goal. Defensively, the Colorado Avalanche are allowing 1.25 goals per game and are killing 83.3 percent of their opponents power plays. Philipp Grubauer has allowed seven goals on 104 shots faced and Pavel Francouz has allowed zero goals on 27 shots.
The Arizona Coyotes need a victory here in order to have a realistic chance of winning this series. The Arizona Coyotes are averaging 2.8 goals per game and are scoring on 14.3 percent of their power play opportunities. Clayton Keller leads Arizona with three goals, Phil Kessel has three assists and Taylor Hall has 14 shots on goal. Defensively, the Arizona Coyotes are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 68.8 percent of their opponents power plays. Darcy Kuemper has given up 17 goals on 231 shots faced.
The Avalanche are 5-0 in their last 5 Conference Quarterfinals games, 5-1 in their last 6 playoff games as a favorite and 20-8 in their last 28 overall. The Coyotes are 9-19 in their last 28 Conference Quarterfinals games, 45-95 in their last 140 vs. Central and 16-40 in their last 56 games playing on 0 days rest. The under is 18-5 in Avalanche last 23 overall. The over is 5-2 in Coyotes last 7 Saturday games. The Avalanche are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
The Colorado Avalanche have been the better team this series and have won seven of the last 10 meetings against the Coyotes. I've also mentioned in the past that the Arizona Coyotes are just one of those teams that let me down every time I'm ready to buy in what they're selling. The Avs should be the favorite here to go up 3-0 and all but put this series to bed. However, the Coyotes looked better in Friday's loss than they did in their opening loss, and we're getting the more desperate team at big plus money. While I don't trust the Coyotes a whole lot, they are capable of a complete 60 minutes and finishing the deal here. There's value in this price.
