The Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers meet in game five of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final series in NHL action from Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday.
The Montreal Canadiens will try to fight for another day after falling behind 3-1 in the series after a 2-0 loss to the Flyers in game four on Tuesday.
Marco Raffl opened the scoring for the Flyers six and a half minutes into the game and the lead held until Philippe Myers doubled the lead for Philadelphia with just under three minutes to go in the second period. Montreal outshot the Flyers 22-12 over the final two periods, including 12-7 in the 3rd, but the Flyers held strong and saw the 2-0 lead through the final horn, taking a commanding 3-1 series lead and pushing the Habs to the brink.
Carter Hart got the win for Philadelphia in goal after stopping all 29 shots faced for his second straight shutout while Carey Price took the loss between the pipes for Montreal after allowing both goals on 22 shots faced in defeat.
Montreal is 1-4 in their last 5 games playing on no rest and 1-5 in their last 6 conference quarter-final games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Philadelphia is 37-14 in their last 51 games as a favorite and 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 9-0 in their last 9 games overall. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings while Montreal is 4-9 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
The plus money with Montreal is tempting as the Habs have their backs up against it here and Carey Price is more than capable of standing on his head and getting the Canadiens to a game six. However, Philadelphia’s found their footing in this series and Carter Hart’s been dominant in goal for the flyers and is showing maturity and poise way beyond his years in that crease and is going to be the reason Philly gets the win here and moves on.
