The Boston Bruins and the New Jersey Devils meet in NHL action from the Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Boston Bruins will look to build on their 3-2 season-opening shootout win over the Devils last time out. Boston opened the scoring when Brad Marchand scored the lone goal of the opening period and the lead would hold through the 2nd period and into the 3rd period until Miles Wood got New Jersey on the board, tying the game up at one goal apiece. Nick Ritchie would restore Boston’s lead with just under seven minutes to play but the lead lasted all of :34 before Ty Smith tied things up at two for the Devils.
The rest of regulation solved nothing and neither did overtime so it was off to the shootout where Boston found the lone goal of the six attempts taken to emerge with the victory and start New Jersey’s season off empty-handed.
Tuukka Rask got the win for Boston after stopping 20 of 22 shots faced in the winning effort while MacKenzie Blackwood ended up with the loss falling to 0-0-1 on the year as a result.
Boston is 14-5 in their last 19 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Boston is 27-7 in the last 34 meetings between these two teams and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in New Jersey.
The Devils were hard luck losers in the opener and that’s unfortunately going to happen quite a bit, being in the toughest division in terms of the realignment. I just feel like the Devils make a positive out of the negative from the other day, so I’ll take New Jersey and the plus money as I think the Devils bounce back and steal one from the Bruins here.
