The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Detroit Red Wings meet in the second half of a back-to-back set from Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will look to build on their first win of the season after picking up a 3-2 win over the Red Wings on Monday.
Bobby Ryan opened the scoring for Detroit at the seven minute mark of the opening period and Detroit’s lead held until there was just under five mintues to go in the 2nd period where Oliver Bjorkstrand tied the game at one for Columbus. Alex Texier and Pierre-Luc Dubois each had a goal in a span of 1:16 to forge ahead 3-1 early in the 3rd period and although Ryan would pull one back for Detroit with his second goal of the game, it came with just under a minute to play and there just wasn’t enough time for Detroit to find the equalizer before the final horn.
Joonas Korpisalo got the win to improve to 1-1 on the year after stopping 35 of 37 shots faced in the winning effort for Columbus while Thomas Greiss ended up with the loss for the Red Wings after allowing 3 goals on 29 shots faced in defeat.
Columbus is 7-20 in their last 27 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their alst 5 games as a favorite. Detroit is 11-42 in their last 53 games overall and 9-20 in their last 29 home games while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games playing on no rest. Columbus is 21-6 in the last 27 meetings between these two teams and 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Detroit.
I went back and forth on this one for a bit as Columbus shouldn’t be laying this kind of juice with how they started the year and Detroit’s well… Detroit. I don’t know if Columbus wins by 2, but the option to win in regulation is tempting enough that I’ll take my shot with the Columbus Blue Jackets to rin in regulation here.
