The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins meet in NHL action from the TD Garden on Thursday night.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to rebound from a 3-2 overtime loss to Boston last time out. Sidney Crosby leads the Penguins in scoring with 7 points coming on 3 goals and 4 assists while Bryan Rust, Jake Guentzel and Jared McCann each have 5 points, with all three logging 2 goals and 3 assists to get to that total. Teddy Blueger has 2 goals and 2 assists for his 4 points and after Blueger, six different Penguins have three points. Evgeni Malkin, Mark Jankowski, Kasperi Kapanen and Jason Zucker all have a goal and 2 assists while Kris Letang has 3 assists and Brandon Tanev has 2 goals and an assist this season. Tristan Jarry has seen the bulk of the workload for Pittsburgh, posting a 2-3 record with a 3.91 GAA while Casey DeSmith has a 2-0 mark with a 2.76 GAA this season.
The Boston Bruins will look to add to their win over the hapless Penguins last time out. Brad Marchand leads the Bruins with 9 points coming on 4 goals and 5 assists while Nick Ritchie and Patrice Bergeron each have 3 goals and 3 assists for their 6 points apiece. David Krejci has 5 assists and Charlie McAvoy has 4 helpers while Craig Smith has 2 goals and 2 assists for Boston this season. Tuukka Rask’s seen the majority of the work between the pipes for Boston with a 3-1 record and a 2.13 GAA but Jaroslav Halak poses as a formidable backup with a 1.44 GAA this season.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 0-5 in their last 5 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 37-15 ATS in their last 52 games following a win and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. Pittsburgh is 3-13 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Boston and 8-18 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams overall.
I’d like to give the Pens a shot with the plus money, but the problem is that the Penguins just haven’t been able to get much help in terms of secondary scoring and there’s only so much that Sidney Crosby and the top guys right now can do. Boston’s getting it done across the board right now and have learned to live life without a lot of pieces from last year’s squad and I think the Bruins take another step in the right direction with a win on the money line here.
