The New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers meet in NHL action from the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.
The New York Islanders will look to bounce back after a 6-3 loss to Washington last time out. Mathew Barzal leads the Isles in scoring with 7 poings coming on 3 goals and 4 assists while Noah Dobson has a goal and 4 helpers for his 5 points. Anders Lee and Jordan Eberle each have 4 points with Lee logging 3 goals while Eberle has a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Nick Leddy each have 3 points with Leddy logging 3 assists while Pageau has a pair of helpers on the year. Semyon Varlamov’s seen the bulk of the action for the Isles, going 3-2 with a 1.82 GAA and 2 shutouts this season.
The Philadelphia Flyers will look to build off of a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils in their last matchup. Jakub Voracek leads the Flyers in scoring with 9 points coming on a goal and 8 assists while James van Riemsdyk, Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny and Kevin Hayes each have 8 points with Konecny and JVR logging 5 goals with 3 assists while Hayes has 3 goals and 5 helpers and Giroux has 7 assists to lead the group in that regard. Nolan Patrick, Ivan Provorov, Erik Gustafsson and Joel Farabee each have 5 points with Farabee, Patrick and Provorov logging 2 goals and 3 assists while Gustafsson has 5 helpers. Carter Hart’s seen the majority of Philadelphia’s starts in goal, going 3-2 with a 3.61 GAA while Brian Elliott is 2-0 with a shutout and a 1.98 GAA and a shutout this season.
New York is 0-4 in their last 4 road games and 3-10 in their last 13 Saturday games while the under is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games overall. Philadelphia is 26-10 in their last 36 home games and 10-4 in their last 14 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. The favorite is 54-21 in the last 75 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the plus money seems tempting with New York as this is a rivalry game and guys tend to step up and take these games a bit more seriously with so much at stake. However, Philadelphia’s been absolutely rolling along right now and are looking like the team that clinched the #1 seed in the bubble last year and the one that tore teams apart left and right in the regular season before that. The Islanders keep finding ways to lose early on and last time it was blowing a 3-0 lead with 6 unanswered goals at the hands of Washington. I need to see the Isles turn things around before backing them with confidence again. I’ll lay the juice with Philly here.
