The Florida Panthers and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from Little Caesars Arena on Sunday night.
The Florida Panthers will look to keep the pressure on after a 3-2 overtime win over the Red Wings last time out. Patrik Hornqvist, Aleksander Barkov and Anthony Duclair each have 6 points with Hornqvist logging 4 goals while Barkov has 4 assists and Duclair has a team-high 6 assists. Carter Verhaeghe also has 6 points with 4 goals and 2 assists this season. Jonathan Huberdeau has 5 points with a goal and 4 assists and Keith Yandle and Aaron Ekblad each have 4 points this season. Sergei Bobrovsky leads the Panthers with 3 wins but has a 2.87 GAA while Chris Driedger has a team-best 1.92 GAA this season.
The Detroit Red Wings will be looking for some measure of revenge here after their loss to the Panthers last time out. Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi each have 7 points with Larkin’s points coming on 3 goals and 4 assists while Bertuzzi’s tickled the twins 5 times this season. Bobby Ryan, Anthony Mantha and Filip Hronek each have 5 points with Ryan logging 4 goals while Mantha has a pair of goals and Hronek has 5 assists. Thomas Greiss has had no luck with a team-best 3.01 GAA but a paltry 0-6 record while Jonathan Bernier has both of Detroit’s wins this season.
Florida is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 games as a road favorite while the over is 43-21-2 in their last 66 games following a win. Detroit is 10-22 in their last 32 home games and 12-48 in their last 60 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. Florida is 7-0 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 13-3 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Detroit.
I’m not sure what to make of this game, as I think Florida’s the better team, but you have to think that Detroit’s going to steal a game at some point and I think this might be their shot. I’m not trying to back either one of these teams in this spot, so I’ll side with the under as it might be Detroit’s best shot to get a win here and to do that they’ll have to stymie this Panthers offense.
