The St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks meet in NHL action from the SAP Center on Saturday night.
The St. Louis Blues will be out to snap a three-game losing skid after a 2-1 loss to L.A. last time out. David Perron leads the Blues in scoring with 20 points coming on 6 goals and 14 assists while Ryan O’Reilly and Jordan Kyrou each have 17 points with O’Reilly tallying 6 goals and 11 assists while Kyrou has 7 goals and 10 apples on the year. Brayden Schenn has 16 points with a team-high 9 goals and 7 assists while Mike Hoffman has 14 points with 6 goals and 7 assists and Torey Krug’s got 11 points with 10 assists. Jordan Binnington continues to see the bulk of the action in goal for St. Louis, going 8-6 with a 2.49 GAA on the year in 16 appearances.
The San Jose Sharks will try to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 5 games following a 6-2 beating at the hands of the Wild last time out. Logan Couture leads the Sharks in scoring with 16 points coming on 10 goals with 6 assists while Evander Kane’s got 5 goals and 8 assists and Tomas Hertl has 11 points with 6 goals and 5 helpers on the year. Kevin Labanc has 9 points with 2 goals and 7 assists while Brent Burns, Timo Meier and Ryan Donato each have 8 points with Burns logging 4 goals with 4 assists while Donato’s got 3 goals with 5 apples and Meier has 2 goals and 6 assists this season. Martin Jones has made 12 appearances in goal with a 6-6 record and a 3.85 GAA while Devan Dubnyk’s made 8 appearances with a 2.88 GAA and a single win to show for his effort.
St. Louis is 5-1 in their last 6 road games and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite. San Jose is 105 in their last 6 home games and 0-4 in their last 4 games as a home underdog while the under is 10-2 in their last 12 Saturday games. The Blues are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
The Blues being favored makes sense because side-by-side they’re viewed as the better and more name brand team. However, they’ve also lost three straight and while San Jose has been on this win one lose one deal, one of their wins recently was against this same St. Louis team and given the current state of the Blues, this could be a spot to pounc on the Blues for some value. I’ll take San Jose and the plus money as my pick for this one.
