The New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins meet Sunday in NHL action at the TD Garden.
The New Jersey Devils need a win here to snap a five game losing streak. The New Jersey Devils are averaging 2.5 goals per game and are scoring on 13.8 percent of their power play opportunities. Miles Wood leads New Jersey with seven goals, TY Smith has nine assists and Jack Hughes has 51 shots on goal. Defensively, the New Jersey Devils are allowing 3.1 goals per game and are killing 62.5 percent of their opponents power plays. Mackenzie Blackwood has allowed 30 goals on 339 shots faced and Scott Wedgewood has allowed 14 goals on 141 shots.
The Boston Bruins need a win after splitting their last 10 games. The Boston Bruins are averaging three goals per game and are scoring on 25 percent of their power play opportunities. Brad Marchand leads Boston with 12 goals, Patrice Bergeron has 13 assists and Nick Ritchie has 46 shots on goal. Defensively, the Boston Bruins are allowing 2.5 goals per game and are killing 88.7 percent of their opponents power plays. Tuukka Rask has given up 34 goals on 346 shots faced and Jaroslav Halak has allowed 18 goals on 207 shots.
The Devils are 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 0-4 in their last 4 overall. The Bruins are 19-7 in their last 26 games playing on 1 days rest and 6-2 in their last 8 home games. The over is 5-1 in Devils last 6 road games. The under is 4-1-1 in Bruins last 6 home games. The Devils are 3-14 in the last 17 meetings in Boston and 9-27 in the last 36 meetings.
The New Jersey Devils just can't get out of their own way and aren't a team I'm looking to back anytime soon with their inability to find consistent offense. The Boston Bruins have played their best hockey at home, remain one of the better home teams in the league and they've absolutely owned the Devils over the years. I have no choice but to side with the Bruins, and I'll take the PL for added betting value.
