The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.
The Tampa Bay Lightning come into this one looking to build on their 4-3 win over the Red Wings in their last matchup. Victor Hedman leads the Lightning in scoring with 25 points including a team-high 20 assists while Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point each have 22 points with Stamkos leading the Lighting with 11 goals along with 11 assists while Point has 14 assists. Ondrej Palat has 21 points with 10 goals and 11 assists and Mikhail Sergachev has 17 points with 16 assists. Anthony Cirelli, Yanni gourde and Alex Killorn each have 15 points as well this season. Andrei Vasilevskiy leads the Lightning in goal, sitting at 16-4 with 3 shutouts and a 1.79 GAA in 20 games played this season.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to rebound from their narrow loss to the Lightning in their last matchup. Bobby Ryan leads the Red Wings in scoring with 13 points coming on 6 goals and 7 assists while Dylan Larkin and Filip Hronek each have 12 points with Larkin adding 5 goals and 7 assists while Hronek adding 12 assists. Tampa Bay is 62-23 in their last 85 games overall and 56-22 in their last 78 games as a favorite while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win. Detroit is 17-61 in their last 78 games overall and 16-35 in their last 51 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as an underdog. The favorite is 23-3 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for both sides here as Tampa bay is the far better team, the team that’s probably winning this game and a team that should win comfortably. On the other hand, this line is always crazy in this matchup and with the way the puck bounces, it’s not far fetched to think Detroit could steal a game from the Lightning and make us a pile of underdog money in the process. Instead, I’m going to side with the over here as I can picture a boatload of goals coming in here regardless of whichever net they’re being picked out of and in the end, I look for this one to go over the number.
