The Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers meet Sunday in NHL action at the BB&T Center.

The Chicago Blackhawks look for their first win after losing twice to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Chicago Blackhawks are averaging 1.5 goals per game and are scoring on 28.6 percent of their power play opportunities. Dylan Strome leads Chicago with one goal, Adam Boqvist has two assists and Pius Suter has eight shots on goal. Defensively, the Chicago Blackhawks are allowing five goals per game and are killing 71.4 percent of their opponents power plays. Malcolm Subban has given up five goals on 33 shots faced and Collin Delia has given up five goals on 37 shots.

The Florida Panthers won 35 games last season and watched things end in the qualifying round. The Panthers now hope to make playoffs back-to-back seasons for just the second time in franchise history. The Panthers said goodbye to Mike Matheson, Colton Sceviour, Mike Hoffman and Evgenii Dadonov. The Panthers added Patric Hornqvist, Alexander Wennberg, Anthony Duclair, Vinnie Hinostroza, Radko Gudas, Carter Verhaeghe and Markus Nutivaara. The Panthers have a young, talented core that can put together offense at will and it certainly wasn’t a problem last year. This season is all about goalie Sergei Bobrovsky returning to form and living up to the massive contract he received. If Bobrovsky is back to being a quality goalie, the Panthers should make the postseason back-to-back years for the first time since 1995-96.

The Blackhawks are 0-6 in their last 6 road games and 1-6 in their last 7 overall. The Panthers are 2-9 in their last 11 home games and 3-7 in their last 10 overall. The over is 5-2 in Blackhawks last 7 road games. The under is 6-2-1 in Panthers last 9 overall. The Blackhawks are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Florida and 20-8-2 in the last 30 meetings.

I mentioned previously that this is going to be a rebuild season for the Chicago Blackhawks and they’re going to have a lot of bad losses. While the Lightning aren’t a cakewalk to start the season, the Blackhawks looked awful in two games. The Florida Panthers are a legit playoff contender and could be more than that if Bobrovsky gets his act together. Either way, this should be a victory for the home team. I’ll lay the reasonable price with the Panthers in their season opener.
