The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets meet in NHL action from the Bell MTS Place on Friday night.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be out to build on their 3-1 win over the Jets last time out. Mitch Marner leads the Leafs in scoring with 46 points including 13 goals and a team-high 33 assists while Auston Matthews has a team-high 24 goals with 18 assists for his 42 points. William Nylander has 26 points split between 13 goals and 13 assists and Zach Hyman’s 24 points are split between 12 goals and 12 assists. As a team, Toronto is averaging 3.3 goals on 30.8 shots with a 24.8% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.6 goals on 28 shots against with a 77.2% success rate on the PK this season.
The Winnipeg Jets will be out to bounce back from their loss to Toronto last time out. Mark Scheifele leads the Jets in scoring with 44 points including 15 goals and a team-high 29 assists while Nikolaj Ehlers has 36 points with 15 goals and 21 apples. Kyle Connor also has 36 points with a team-high 17 goals with 19 assists while Blake Wheeler has 31 points with 21 assists and 10 goals this year. Andrew Copp has 27 points with 11 goals and 16 assists and Neal Pionk has 24 points with 21 assists while Paul Stastny has 23 points with 11 goals and 12 assists. As a team, Winnipeg is averaging 3.2 goals on 29.5 shots with a 26.2% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.7 goals on 31.3 shots against with a 79.6% success rate killing off penalties this season.
Toronto is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 11-4 in their last 15 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite. Winnipeg is 5-2 in their last 7 games as a home underdog and 11-5 in their last 16 Friday games while the over is 10-4-2 in their last 16 games overall. The over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams and 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams in Winnipeg.
The case could be made either way here as Toronto is getting back on track while Winnipeg is getting through it as well and still don’t get much respect from oddsmakers. Instead, I’m going to side with the over, even though the total is dropping since the open. Both sides have had no problems scoring for fun and I just think the amount of talent on both sides is enough to push us past the number here.
