The Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets meet in NHL action from Bell MTS Place on Monday night.
The Ottawa Senators will be out to build on their 6-3 win over Montreal last time out. Thomas Chabot, Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson all have a team-high 23 points with Chabot leading the Sens with 19 assists while Tkachuk and Batherson each have a team-high 12 goals with 11 assists and Tkachuk leads Ottawa with 154 shots on goal this season. As a team, Ottawa is averaging 2.5 goals per game on 31.3 shots with the 14.3% conversion rate on the power play while allowing 3.7 goals per game on 32.4 shots with a 77% kill rate on the penalty kill this season.
The Winnipeg Jets will be out to rebound from a 2-1 loss to Toronto last time out. Mark Scheifele leads the Jets in scoring with 44 points including a team-high 29 assists while Nikolaj Ehlers has 36 points with 15 goals and 26 assists and Kyle Connor has 36 points of his own with a team-high 17 goals this season. As a team, Winnipeg is averaging 3.2 goals per game on 29.6 shots with a 25.7% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.7 goals per game on 31.5 shots with an 80.2% kill rate on the penalty kill this season.
Ottawa is 22-49 in their last 71 games overall and 21-48 in their last 69 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Winnipeg is 15-6 in their last 21 games as a home favorite and 20-8 in their last 28 games as a favorite while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Ottawa is 1-6 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that could be made for Ottawa with the plus money, but the reality is that Ottawa plays their best at home and the play on the road leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the Senators. Winnipeg is getting their respect now, but it’s coming against the lesser teams and a lot of teams are seeing like like that playing at home against Ottawa. I still think that Winnipeg -1.5 is the play here though.
