The Washington Capitals visit the New York Islanders in NHL action from the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night.
The Washington Capitals will look to build on their 5-4 win over the New Jersey Devils last time out. Nicklas Backstrom leads the Caps in scoring with 39 points including a team-high 26 assists while Alex Ovechkin has 34 points with a team-high 19 goals along with 134 shots on goal this season. John Carlson also has 32 points with 22 assists this season. As a team, Washington is averaging 3.4 goals on 28 shots with a 24.2% success rate on the PP while allowing 3 goals on 28.7 shots with an 82% kill rate on the PK this season.
The New York Islanders will look to build on a 3-2 win over the Flyers last time out. Mathew Barzal leads the Islanders in scoring with 13 goals along with 21 assists while Nick Leddy has a team-high 24 assists. Jordan Eberle and Brock Nelson each have 13 goals as well respectively this season. Washington is 10-3 in their last 13 road games and 9-2 in their last 11 games following a win while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as a road underdog. New York is 11-2 in their last 13 games following a win and 19-7 in their last 26 games overall while the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 games as a home favorite. The underdog is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Islanders are favored here as they’ve been on quite the roll and are a tough out at home. However, we’re getting plus money with the Washington Capitals, which very rarely happens as it is, and then you look at how much success the underdog has had in this matchup. Washington’s also won 6 of the last 8 meetings between the two in New York, so I’ll take my chances with the Capitals and the plus money in this spot.
