The Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings meet Thursday in NHL action at the Staples Center. The Vegas Golden Knights look for another victory after beating the Seattle Kraken in their season opener. The Los Angeles Kings haven’t made the playoffs since 2017-18 and enter a third season under coach Todd McLellan.

The Vegas Golden Knights are averaging four goals per game and are scoring on zero percent of their power play opportunities. Max Pacioretty leads Vegas with two goals, Mark Stone has three assists and Jonathan Marchessault has three shots on goal. Defensively, the Vegas Golden Knights are allowing three goals per game and are killing 100 percent of their opponent’s power plays. Robin Lehner has given up three goals on 31 shots faced.

The Los Angeles Kings haven’t been all that competitive in a while, and they hope the additions of Philip Danault, Alexander Edler and Viktor Arvidsson can help change that. Arvidsson has seen his production dip the last two years, but he’s only 28 years old, and he had a three-year stretch where he racked up 94 goals and 76 assists. Anze Kopitar continues to be productive 15 seasons in and finished top-10 for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy last season. Calvin Petersen has been impressive at goalie through limited playing time and could improve the outlook of this Kings team greatly. It’s also about time Quinton Byfield starts to show why he was the second pick in the 2020 NHL draft. There’s potential on this Kings roster, and they could end the playoff drought if things break well.

The Golden Knights are 2-5 in their last 7 road games and 74-35 in their last 109 overall. The Kings are 0-4 in their last 4 home games and 0-5 in their last 5 overall. The under is 3-0-2 in Golden Knights last 5 road games. The under is 6-0 in Kings last 6 home games. The Golden Knights are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.

The Vegas Golden Knights are off to a strong start to the season, but they now go on the road, where they had some struggles last season. The Los Angeles Kings are a better team than they were last season and should up for this one as a season opener. With all that said, I’m leaning toward the over, which has hit in 10 of the last 13 meetings between the Golden Knights and Kings. Seven of the last 10 meetings have produced at least six goals. Give me the over.
