The Colorado Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues meet in NHL action from the Enterprise Center on Wednesday night.
The Colorado Avalanche will look to add to their 4-2 win over Arizona in their last matchup. Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avs in scoring with 52 points including 17 goals and a team-high 35 assists while Mikko Rantanen has 50 points split between a team-high 25 goals and 25 assists. Gabriel Landeskog has 41 points with 16 goals and 25 assists and Sam Girard has 31 points with 26 assists this season. As a team, Colorado is averaging 3.6 goals on 35.3 shots with a 23.4% success rate on the power play while allowing 2.3 goals on 25.1 shots with an 84% kill rate on the PK this season.
The St. Louis Blues will be out to build on their 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild last time out. David Perron leads the Blues in scoring with 40 points including 13 goals and a team-high 27 assists while Ryan O’Reilly has 39 points with a team-high 17 goals and 22 assists. Brayden Schenn, Jordan Kyrou and Mike Hoffman all have double-digit goal and assist tallies as well this season. As a team, St. Louis is averaging 2.9 goals on 30 shots with an 18.1% success rate on the PP while allowing 3.1 goals on 29.9 shots against with a 78.6% success rate on the PK this season.
Colorado is 41-15 in their last 56 games against a team with a losing record and 8-3 in their last 11 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road favorite. St. Louis is 7-19 in their last 26 home games and 5-12 in their last 17 games overall while the over is 11-4-1 in their last 16 games as a home underdog. Colorado is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I get the case that can be made for both sides as Colorado’s the better team and St. Louis is a better team than how they’ve performed for much of the season. However, the Blues just have a hard time winning games at home and sustaining that momentum the odd time they actually do win. Colorado just has a ton going in the right direction for them right now and in this one, are the play for me.
