The Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning duke it out in a Sunshine State Showdown in NHL action from Amalie Arena on Tuesday night.

The Florida Panthers will look to add to their 2-0 start to the year after a 5-1 win over the Islanders in their last game. Sam Bennett opened the scoring for the Cats 9:10 into the game and the lead held until Bennett doubled his and Florida’s tallies by scoring again 3:48 into the second. Anthony Duclair pushed the lead to 3-0 just before the final minute of the 3rd, but New York would get on the board 3:30 into the final frame. That was as close as Florida would let them get though, as Bennett completed his hat trick just before the halfway point of the 3rd and Aleksander Barkov would add one more for good measure just 2:43 later. Sergei Bobrovsky got the win to improve to 2-0 after stopping 29 of 30 shots faced in the win.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 2-1 OT win over the Capitals in their last game. The game started and remained scoreless for the first 20 minutes and the bulk of the 2nd period before Washington got on the board with just over a minute to go in the middle period. Mikhail Sergachev got the Bolts on the board less than five minutes into the third, but the rest of regulation play was unable to produce a winner, so it was off to OT where we almost ended up in a shootout, but Steven Stamkos scored with :15 to go in the extra frame to secure the win for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy got the win in goal for Tampa Bay after stopping 32 of 33 shots faced in the win.

Florida is 10-4 in their last 14 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 games as a road underdog while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Tampa Bay is 51-20 in their last 71 home games and 98-45 in their last 143 games overall while the under is 9-3-3 in their last 15 games following a win.

This has the makings of a classic between the Panthers who are out to show that they’re not in Tampa Bay’s shadow anymore, and the Lightning who are out to defend their crown. With that said, I just like the value that we’re getting with the Panthers here. The Lightning still haven’t looked right for most of their play on the ice so far and I’m still wrapping my head around opening night and the 7-6 game against Detroit. Give me the Panthers here.
