The New York Islanders and the Chicago Blackhawks meet in NHL action from the United Center on Tuesday night.

The New York Islanders come into this game searching for their first win after a 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in their last game. Florida opened the scoring just before the midway point of the opening period and doubled their lead less than four minutes into the second. New York found themselves down 3-0 with just over a minute to go in the 3rd, but were given a lifeline with Oliver Wahlstrom’s power play goal early in the 3rd. 3-1 was as close as the Isles would get the rest of the way as the Panthers struck two more times in the span of 2:43 to push the lead to 5-1 which the Isles simply couldn’t overcome. Ilya Sorokin took the loss, falling to 0-2 after allowing all five goals on 29 shots faced in defeat.

The Chicago Blackhawks are also in need of a win after a 5-2 loss at the hands of Pittsburgh in their last matchup. Pittsburgh opened the scoring just :15 into the game and the Pens made it 2-0 5:33 into the opening frame. Pittsburgh struck two more times :26 apart just after the midway point of the 1st, chasing Marc-Andre Fleury from the game and bringing in Kevin Lankinen. Patrick Kane got the Hawks on the board five minutes into the 2nd, but the Penguins would restore the four-goal cushion later in the middle frame. Kirby Dach made it a 5-2 game with just over four minutes to play, but that’s as close as the Blackhawks got with just 2 shots on goal in the 3rd period. Fleury ended up with the loss, falling to 0-2 after allowing the 4 goals on 10 shots before being pulled.

New York is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 62-29 in their last 91 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 13-4 in their last 17 games as a road favorite. Chicago is 8-20 in their last 28 games as an underdog and 0-4 in their last 4 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 home games.

I get the case that could be made both ways here as both teams need the win, but I’m leaning towards the under here. I really think we end up seeing both teams get back to basics defensively and play a tough, physical style of game where nothing comes easy for either side. Give me the under in a black and blue game.
