The Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers square off in NHL action from the Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday night.

The Boston Bruins will look to build some steam after starting the year with a 3-1 win over Dallas in their last game. Brad Marchand opened the scoring with under three minutes to go with a penalty shot but the Stars would tie the game just before the midway point of the 2nd with the lone goal of the middle frame. The tie held into the 3rd period where Jake DeBrusk gave Boston the lead just under five minutes into the final frame and Marchand sealed the win for Boston with an empty-netter with under two minutes to play. Jeremy Swayman got the win by stopping 27 of 28 shots faced in the winning effort.

The Philadelphia Flyers will also be looking to add to their first win of the year after a 6-1 rout of the Seattle Kraken last time out. The Flyers attacked early and often, with Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny and Derick Brassard all scoring in a span of 5:18 in the first period. Ryan Ellis and Justin Braun pushed it to 5-0 with goals 1:39 apart before Seattle finally got on the board late in the 2nd period. Joel Farabee added a 6th goal for good measure just before the midway point of the 3rd period to give the Flyers the five-goal cushion back and a cushion that they’d ride to the finish line for the W. Carter Hart got the win in goal for the Flyers to improve to 1-0-1 after stopping 23 of 24 shots faced in the winning effort.

Boston is 19-9 in their last 28 games as a favorite and 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Metropolitan division while the under is 12-4 in their last 16 Wednesday games. Philadelphia is 8-19 in their last 27 games as an underdog and 8-21 in their last 29 games following a win while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 home games.

I get why the plus money with the Flyers is worth a look, as this is a long-standing rivalry between Boston and Philly and Carter Hart is going to be one of the goalies of the future for the NHL. However, the Flyers weren’t as dominant last year as they were in the bubble the year prior and Boston is simply the more complete team here. I’m also not a Martin Jones fan in goal for Philadelphia, so I’ll lay the juice with the Bruins on the road here.
