The Vancouver Canucks and the Chicago Blackhawks meet in NHL action from the United Center on Thursday night.

The Vancouver Canucks will be out to rebound from a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres in their last matchup. Bo Horvat opened the scoring for the Canucks just under six minutes into the game, but the Sabres would tie the game at one just 2:25 later. Justin Dowling restored Vancouver’s lead before the end of the 1st and the lead would hold up for much of the second period, but Buffalo would tie the game at two heading into the third period. The Sabres struck early in the 3rd, twice in a span of :23 to push ahead 4-2 and added a 5th on an empty net to secure the win and send Vancouver back empty-handed. Thatcher Demko took the loss, falling to 1-1-1 after allowing 4 goals on 42 shots faced in the losing effort.

The Chicago Blackhawks will be out to rebound from a 4th straight loss to start the year after a 4-1 loss to the Islanders in their last matchup. The game held up scoreless through the opening 20 minutes before New York took a 1-0 lead with the lone goal of the 2nd period. The lone goal would hold up until New York doubled their lead in the first minute of the 3rd and went 4-0 up with another pair of goals just 2:15 apart. MacKenzie Entwistle got a consolation goal late in the 3rd, but that’s as close as the Blackhawks would get as the Isles held on for the win. Marc-Andre Fleury ended up with the loss, falling to 0-3 after allowing 4 goals on 29 shots faced in the loss.

Vancouver is 1-4 in their last 5 road games and 2-6 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the Western Conference. Chicago is 1-6 in their last 7 home games and 0-5 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games.

I’m not trying to back either one of these teams right now if I’m being completely honest, but the bottom line here is that they’re both giving up a lot of goals right now and at some point, the focus has to be on defense and just not giving up goals. I think that’s what these two teams focus on Thursday, so give me the under here.
