The San Jose Sharks and the Ottawa Senators meet in NHL action from the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday night.

The San Jose Sharks will come into this one looking to build on their 5-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens last time out. Jonathan Dahlen scored his first two NHL goals within the first 3:36 of the game and 2:14 apart to stake the Sharks an early 2-0 lead before Erik Karlsson made it 3-0 in the last minute of the opening frame. Timo Meier pushed the lead to 4-0 with the lone goal of the second period and Kevin Labanc’s goal in the 3rd made it 5-0, a lead that the Sharks would ride to the final result. Adin Hill got the win and the shutout, stopping all 31 shots faced in the victory.

The Ottawa Senators will try to add to their 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars in their last matchup. Dallas opened the scoring just 4:34 into the game, but Nic Paul would tie things up at one just 1:50 later. Chris Tierney would strike twice in the second period alone to put Ottawa up 3-1 heading into the 3rd period. Dallas would outshoot Ottawa 13-5 in the 3rd and get a goal with less than six minutes to go, but the Sens would hold onto the one-goal margin and march out victorious. Filip Gustavsson got the win after stopping 32 of 34 shots faced in the winning effort.

San Jose is 5-14 in their last 19 games overall and 17-37 in their last 54 games as a road underdog while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games. Ottawa is 7-0 in their last 7 home games and 16-35 in their last 51 games following a win while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 Thursday games.

Well these are two teams I didn’t expect much from early on but both have proved me wrong up to this point and have gotten it done with solid goaltending and good defense and I think we see more of that here. Tough, physical play that results in a low-scoring battle and one that comes in under the number.
