The Buffalo Sabres and the Tampa Bay Lightning meet in NHL action from the Amalie Arena on Sunday.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers last time out. Tage Thompson leads the Sabres in scoring with 58 points including 32 goals while Rasmus Dahlin also has 44 points with a team-high 35 assists and Jeff Skinner has 54 points with 30 goals. Kyle Okposo also has 41 points with 18 goals and 23 apples this season. Craig Anderson has an 14-10-2 record with a 3.02 GAA and a .901 save percentage between the pipes for Buffalo this season.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to snap a four-game losing skid after a 2-1 OT loss to Boston last time out. Steven Stamkos leads the Lightning in scoring with 79 points including a team-high 32 goals along with 47 assists while Victor Hedman also has 67 points with a team-high 48 assists as well this season. Brayden Point has 54 points with 27 goals and 27 assists and Alex Killorn has 52 points with 21 goals and 31 assists for the Bolts this season. Andrei Vaslievskiy has seen the bulk of the workload between the pipes for Tampa Bay this season, posting a record of 35-16-5 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage on the year.
Buffalo is 14-41 in their last 55 games as a road underdog and 17-48 in their last 65 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 2-0-2 in their last 4 division games. Tampa Bay is 72-32 in their last 104 home games and 0-4 in their last 4 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a favorite.
I get the case to be made for Tampa Bay here as the Lightning are going to be favored because of name brand as the two-time defending Stanley Cup champs. However, the Sabres, despite losing games and not being a team I like to back, have been playing seriously respectable hockey as of late, especially against the better teams on their schedule. I’ll take a shot on Buffalo +1.5 here to keep this game within a goal if not win the game outright.
