The Vancouver Canucks and the Columbus Blue Jackets meet in NHL action from the Nationwide Arena on Tuesday night.
The Vancouver Canucks will look to pick up their first win of the season after a 6-4 loss to Washington on Monday. Elias Pettersson has a team-high 4 points with 2 goals and 2 assists while Brock Boeser, J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes each have 3 points with Boeser and Huhghes each logging 3 assists while Miller has a pair of goals. Thatcher Demko’s posting an 0-3 record with a 3.54 GAA and an .847 save percentage this season.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will also be hunting for their first win after falling to 0-3 with a 5.2 loss to St. Louis last time out. Gustav Nyquist, Johnny Gaudreau and Erik Gudbranson each have a pair of points with Nyquist logging a pair of goals while Gudbranson has a pair of assists. Sean Kuraly and Patrik Laine each have a goal as well this season. Daniil Tarasov’s posted an 0-2 record with a 4.50 GAA and an .890 save percentage this season while Elvis Merzlikins has gone 0-1 with a 5.00 GAA and an .800 save percentage.
Vancouver is 13-42 in their last 55 games played on no rest and 0-6 in their last 6 road games while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 Tuesday games. Columbus is 5-17 in their last 22 games overall and 2-8 in their last 10 games against the Pacific division while the over is 35-13-4 in their last 52 home games.
I get the case to be made for an underdog in some spots, but this is not one of them. Both of these teams have yet to record a win this season, but the Canucks are in a bad way right now as nothing’s going right at the moment. The defense steps up? The offense runs dry. The goals come in bunches? The defense can’t stop a beach ball. The Canucks have also been awful on the second half of the back-to-back for a while now. Columbus is rested and at home, which is fairly big considering the struggled the Canucks have had on the road. I’ll back Columbus at home here.
