The New York Islanders and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from Little Caesars Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The New York Islanders will try to build on their current five-game win streak after a 5-2 win over St. Louis in their last game. Brock Nelson leads the Islanders in scoring with 13 points including 5 goals and 8 assists while Mathew Barzal has a team-high 11 assists and Anders Lee also has 12 points with a team-high 6 goals and 6 assists. Ilya Sorokin has gone 5-3 with a 2.03 GAA and a .936 save percentage while Semyon Varlamov is 2-1 with a 3.03 GAA and a .907 save percentage so far this season.
The Detroit Red Wings will be out to find some consistency, alternating wins and losses in each of their last four games after a 3-1 win over Washington last time out. Dylan Larkin leads Detroit in scoring with 13 points including a team-high 6 goals and 7 assists while Dominik Kubalik has 12 points with 4 goals and a team-high 8 assists. David Perron also has 7 points with 5 goals so far this season. Ville Husso has gone 4-1-1 with a 2.17 GAA and a .934 save percentage while Alex Nedeljkovic is 1-2-1 with a 4.96 GAA and an .871 save percentage between the pipes for Detroit this season.
New York is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win and 5-0 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 Saturday games. Detroit is 2-8 in their last 10 Saturday games and 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Metropolitan division while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win.
I get why you’d look at Detroit as a home underdog as the Red Wings usually play their better hockey on home ice. However, the Red Wings have been inconsistent as of late and while they have had recent success at home, the Islanders are the more complete team in my opinion and are rolling along with wins in 5 straight. I think the Red Wings will continue to provide value over the course of the season, but right now, getting the Islanders at this kind of price is value in itself. Give me the Islanders.
