The Detroit Red Wings and the Florida Panthers meet in NHL action from the FLA Live Arena on Thursday night.
The Detroit Red Wings will be out to build on a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in their last outing. Dylan Larkin leads Detroit with 9 goals and 17 assists for his 26 points while Dominik Kubalik has 25 points with 10 goals and 15 assists. Filip Hronek has 24 points with 6 goals and 18 assists and David Perron has 20 points with 8 goals and 12 assists. Ville Husso has gone 11-4-3 with a 2.54 GAA and a .916 save percentage while Alex Nedeljkovic is 2-3-2 with a 3.97 GAA and an .880 save percentage between the pipes for Detroit this season.
The Florida Panthers will hope to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in their last game. Matthew Tkachuk has a team-high 35 points with 12 goals and 23 assists while Brandon Montour has 22 points and Carter Verhaeghe has 23 points with Montour logging 17 assists while Verhaeghe has 15 goals of his own this season. Sam Bennett also has 21 points with 14 assists as well on the year. Sergei Bobrovsky has posted a 4-6-1 record with a 3.72 GAA and a .880 save percentage while Spencer Knight is 8-4-3 with a 2.64 GAA and a .919 save percentage in goal for Florida this season.
Detroit is 30-82 in their last 112 road games and 38-87 in their last 125 division games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Florida is 3-7 in their last 10 games overall and 41-18 in their last 59 games against the Eastern Conference while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 home games.
I get the reasoning for backing a decent-sized underdog like Detroit and I haven’t been thrilled with Florida for much of this season. However, this is still a Florida team that’s better than what Detroit’s been doing on the road as the team has improved but Detroit’s still be unable to kick their old road habits. I’ll take Florida to continue their home dominance over Detroit by backing the Panthers -1.5 here.
