The Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers meet in NHL action from Madison Square Garden on Saturday afternoon.
The Detroit Red Wings will look to build on their 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes last time out. Dylan Larkin leads Detroit in scoring with 69 points including a team-high 31 goals while Tyler Bertuzzi has 56 points with 27 goals this season. Lucas Raymond has 55 points with 22 goals and 33 apples. Moritz Seider also has 41 assists so far this season. Alex Nedeljkovic is 19-21-9 with a 3.27 GAA and a .903 save percentage in goal for Detroit while Thomas Greiss is 9-13-1 with a 3.56 GAA and an .892 save percentage this season.
The New York Rangers will look to build on their 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers last time out. Artemi Panarin leads the Rangers in scoring with 89 points including 22 goals and 67 assists while Adam Fox is right behind with 67 points including 57 assists. Chris Kreider has 71 points with a team-high 50 goals and 25 power play goals while Mika Zibanejad also has 75 points with 27 goals and 48 assists. Igor Shesterkin’s seen the majority of New York’s action in goal, going 34-11-4 with a 2.09 GAA and a .934 save percentage this season, while Alexandar Georgiev has gone 13-9-2 with a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage.
Detroit is 21-74 in their last 95 road games and 62-135 in their last 197 games overall while the over is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games following a win. New York is 23-5 in their last 28 games against the Atlantic division and 17-6 in their last 23 games as a home favorite while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall.
I get the case to be made for New York being favored at home as the Rangers are the only team here going anywhere come playoff time in a couple of weeks. However, the Red Wings have been a thorn in the side of the Rangers this season, winning one game and having both meetings so far going past 60 minutes. I think this is a solid spot to take Detroit +1.5 here in another unexpectedly tight game.
